When he was 7 he developed a large tumour in his front paw which led to the amputation. He was always fed on raw Mountain Dog Food, however around 4 months post surgery he started having digestional problems, and was losing weight very rapidly. Multiple trips to the vet and thousands of dollars later they discovered that he has a severe vitamin B12 deficiency. I started cooking his dog food, a recipe that included mainly porc, potatoes and supplements. This seemed to work well for the time being, however just a few months ago it started acting up again. Potatoes seemed to calm his stomach, and then I tried pure rice for a few days which really did the trick. I am still slowly weaning him off his meat wet, but it's about a can a month, as he loves the gourmet evolution wet (about half a cup or more) mixed with a table spoon of his old cat food (I section and freeze it, so a can lasts for a month) and I mix it all up with some water, which is good for preventing/dissolving crystals, which cats are prone to. His PH is 6.5 (I get it tested regularly. I get a sample and take it in so he doesn't have the stress of going to the vet). His weight is healthy. There are zero crystals in his urine. He still prefers his kibble before his meat mixture, and eventually, he may eat completely vegan, if his health remains intact, as it is now. I"m just slowly decreasing the amount of meat I add. Going to a tea spoon next month. Also, his fur literally thickened and got more shiny when he started evolution. I think it's just the good nutrition and taurine they put in it. His poos are healthy too. Delivery was efficient and on time, and they always include some nutritional yeast which is nice... I sometimes sprinkle a little on wet (he loves it). Also, I give him the covered cranberries for treats (good for PH/preventing crystals) and/or one or two on top of his kibble (and he loves those too). All around a really good experience! I would suggest weaning your cat slowly off of whatever food they are on for better success, and definitely add water to help them get more hydration! I figure even cutting his meat consumption way back is better than nothing and the goal is to not buy dead animals at all one day. Of course I'm fully vegan and fully healthy. I run half marathons etc... But so far kitty is even healthier with this food added and now his primary food, so I do intend to continue on this regime." –Dove "My beautiful dog Lulu will be 13 years old in a few months. Molly is now 5 years old. She was born with a condition known as Eosinophilic Linear Granuloma and is allergic to animal protein. The prognosis on this condition is 'poor'. Because she developed lumps on her body she was biopsied twice, always with the same result…linear granuloma. In the past four years she has been on every single source protein diet known to the veterinary community as well as on hydrolyzed protein…all have failed to keep the condition from recurring. I should add that she was on LARGE doses of prednisone for most of this time. Finally, in February of 2004, after she began to develop lip and mucous membrane lesions even though she was receiving 20 mg. of prednisone daily, I said enough is enough…we either go vegetarian or be euthanized. After some web searching I found Evolution Pet Food. In early March of this year I started her on canned Vegetable Stew and Gourmet Entree, as well as Gourmet Pasta kibble. She took to the food immediately. Within 2 weeks the lip lesions were gone. Within 6 weeks I had her weaned off of prednisone. Molly has been symptom free for 8 months now and appears to be a healthy cat and appears to thrive on her vegetarian diet. As treats, I sometimes give her baked squash, garbanzo beans or tofu and she loves it all. The veterinary community has tried to treat this condition by 'controlling' it with steroids and diet. In Molly’s case it didn’t work. I wish there was some way to inform the veterinary community about the success of a nutritionally approved vegetarian diet for animals with this allergic condition. I started feeding Evolution to my first dog at least 6-7 years ago when I first found out about it. I’ve been a vegetarian for 10 years, so I wanted a healthy option for my dog, too! It disgusts me to know what ingredients are in other dog foods, and I can’t fathom feeding that to my dogs. My theory is if I wouldn’t consider eating it, why would I feed it to my dogs? My first dog has always had a smooth shiny coat that gets many compliments from vets and others, she never smells bad or 'dog-like', and her breath is never bad. It actually smells good. I attribute all that to Evolution. Being 9 years old, she still acts like a puppy. She is full of energy and very healthy. My second dog, when we first got her, was smelly and her coat was very rough. Since she switched to Evolution, all that has changed. She doesn’t smell bad, neither does her breath, and her coat has gotten much softer and healthier-looking. Ships pretty quick too." –Matthewon "We started using this food in April 2007 after a recommendation from a person who raises and breads AKC dogs that compete in prestigious dog shows. I had told her how my cat developed allergies to most foods and really wasn’t doing well with the Hill’s Low-Allergen z/d Prescription Diet food. Mind you, we always fed our cat premium cat foods. So, after ordering a $19.95 intro pack from Evolution Diet, we were thrilled to see our cat immediately embrace the dry vegan food. Our vet had some concerns, telling us to make sure there is taurine in the food (which it does). Flash forward to his most recent vet visit which was last summer. He had to be put under anesthesia for a tooth cleaning and while he was under, the vet gave him a complete physical. When he was picked up, the vet wanted us to confirm his age. 15 years old was the reply. She couldn’t understand where we got that estimate from, surely it must have been wrong. She estimate the age at about 6 or 7 years. Well, we adopted him at a Humane Society as a baby so we knew for sure he was 15 (now 16). All I can say is that the food must have had a huge influence on his “real age” vs. “physical age.” He has a shiny coat, he is healthy, he is active, and he still loves his food. The only concern he has is a recent cracking of his bones of his back sometimes when he is stretching. Luckily, he is not in pain and he still goes on his regular daily gallop/sprint, which sounds like a pack of elephants stamping around the house (this is one of his trademarks, he has always done this). In terms of moisture concerns or urinary issues, we have not had any. We do not moisten his food. He doesn’t like it that way. But he eats a lot of fruits and vegetables. I didn’t even know that cats liked fruits/vegetables before 1995, but this one aggressively stands firm on his love for them. In fact, he has to have cantaloupe daily, it’s non-negotiable. It has been one of those things where he has demanded it for years. Secondly, he loves bananas, so he gets a couple of pieces per week. And, during the summer months, he gets asparagus spears, which happen to be his #2 favorite thing on earth, next to cantaloupe. He has also been known to steal broccoli off of our plates and run away and eat it too. He is really good at swiftly stealing food, even at 16. I give this food a 5/5 review because in my experience, it has been like a fountain of youth for my cat, who I adore. I am so happy we were told about this food four years ago, and I will continue to feed it to my cat without reservations." –D. I bought the Evolution 20 pounder and started mixing 1:1 with the purina and managed to slowly wean him out of Purina. Now he loves this food and that is all I care about. Wish they would bundle some shipping costs for two bags since at nearly 25% of cost price for shipping, it does get pretty expensive. That said, even if they decided to double the price, I would still pony up and pay." –Anonymous "The two little darlings at my home have been eating this particular cat food since we got them from the local shelter at the ripe young age of 6 months. We chose to switch them over to vegetarian cat food for two reasons: 1) both of us are ethical vegetarians, and 2) we could! We switched them using the same methods vets have recommended when undergoing any change in diet for felines–slowly mixing them together in differing proportions until all that they eat is the new kind of food. In this way the cats do not undergo any kind of indigestion that might cause them to throw up (those with cats already will understand completely). But what was the surest sign that we were doing the right thing for our cats? Even on the first day, and for everyday it was given to them after, they ignored the meat-based cat food, eating only the vegetable-based pieces from their bowl! "I decided to do some research and found out that there were many dogs thriving on a plant-based diet. I enquired about a number of plant-based brands before deciding to go with the offerings from Evolution. Aura started eating the Gourmet Fondue line from Evolution and now eats their Max Life line. She loved the first one and now loves the second one. She is doing great from what we can see and our vet seconds our observation. Blood tests etc. all point to a very healthy dog. "Marley is my 8 year old three-legged boxer. When he was 7 he developed a large tumour in his front paw which led to the amputation. He was always fed on raw Mountain Dog Food, however around 4 months post surgery he started having digestional problems, and was losing weight very rapidly. Multiple trips to the vet and thousands of dollars later they discovered that he has a severe vitamin B12 deficiency. I started cooking his dog food, a recipe that included mainly porc, potatoes and supplements. This seemed to work well for the time being, however just a few months ago it started acting up again. I tried feeding him porc exclusively, which showed no improvement, and then just potatoes, to see if he was intolerant to the food. Potatoes seemed to calm his stomach, and then I tried pure rice for a few days which really did the trick. I asked my vet if i should change recipes, however she encouraged me to slowly reintroduce his old diet back into his system. Within 2 days he was back to and upset stomach, which is what prompted me to try vegan food. I found this website and thought that I had nothing to lose. I received my bag, and within 2 days of feeding the Maximum Life Evolution food his stomach was completely fine. "I bought the sample pack out of curiosity, after reading tons about cat nutrition, and because I love all animals. My cat DOVE into the kibble and just loved it. I am still slowly weaning him off his meat wet, but it's about a can a month, as he loves the gourmet evolution wet (about half a cup or more) mixed with a table spoon of his old cat food (I section and freeze it, so a can lasts for a month) and I mix it all up with some water, which is good for preventing/dissolving crystals, which cats are prone to. His PH is 6.5 (I get it tested regularly. I get a sample and take it in so he doesn't have the stress of going to the vet). His weight is healthy. There are zero crystals in his urine. He still prefers his kibble before his meat mixture, and eventually, he may eat completely vegan, if his health remains intact, as it is now. I"m just slowly decreasing the amount of meat I add. Going to a tea spoon next month. Also, his fur literally thickened and got more shiny when he started evolution. I think it's just the good nutrition and taurine they put in it. His poos are healthy too. Delivery was efficient and on time, and they always include some nutritional yeast which is nice... I sometimes sprinkle a little on wet (he loves it). Also, I give him the covered cranberries for treats (good for PH/preventing crystals) and/or one or two on top of his kibble (and he loves those too). All around a really good experience! I would suggest weaning your cat slowly off of whatever food they are on for better success, and definitely add water to help them get more hydration! I figure even cutting his meat consumption way back is better than nothing and the goal is to not buy dead animals at all one day. Of course I'm fully vegan and fully healthy. I run half marathons etc... But so far kitty is even healthier with this food added and now his primary food, so I do intend to continue on this regime."

Her rescue organization informed me that she had a 'sensitive stomach' and needed a specific brand of food from a chain pet store. "My husband and I have been vegan for a few years, and we often talked about vegan cat food, but didn’t have enough health information, nor could we find a place online that had decent S&H prices and was a Canadian supplier. Eventually, we came across the Evolution Diet site, the prices were in our range, and they had some great nutritional info. After doing a bit more research of my own, we decided to try out the Evolution Diet with our three cats. We took a couple of weeks to transition them to the new food and haven’t looked back; it’s been a huge blessing. "When I say Evolution Pet Food saved my cat’s life, I mean it in the literal sense!
Molly is now 5 years old. She was born with a condition known as Eosinophilic Linear Granuloma and is allergic to animal protein. The prognosis on this condition is 'poor'. Because she developed lumps on her body she was biopsied twice, always with the same result…linear granuloma. In the past four years she has been on every single source protein diet known to the veterinary community as well as on hydrolyzed protein…all have failed to keep the condition from recurring. I should add that she was on LARGE doses of prednisone for most of this time.
Finally, in February of 2004, after she began to develop lip and mucous membrane lesions even though she was receiving 20 mg. of prednisone daily, I said enough is enough…we either go vegetarian or be euthanized.
After some web searching I found Evolution Pet Food. In early March of this year I started her on canned Vegetable Stew and Gourmet Entree, as well as Gourmet Pasta kibble. She took to the food immediately. Within 2 weeks the lip lesions were gone. Within 6 weeks I had her weaned off of prednisone.
Molly has been symptom free for 8 months now and appears to be a healthy cat and appears to thrive on her vegetarian diet. As treats, I sometimes give her baked squash, garbanzo beans or tofu and she loves it all.
The veterinary community has tried to treat this condition by 'controlling' it with steroids and diet. In Molly’s case it didn’t work. I wish there was some way to inform the veterinary community about the success of a nutritionally approved vegetarian diet for animals with this allergic condition. I certainly am doing it with the vets I have dealt with in the past couple of years.

"I have been a customer for over 14 years and would like to say ‘Thank You’ for developing Evolution Pet Food. I have an 18 yr. old German Shepard and a 19 yr. old Bassett Hound. "I am writing to let you know how happy I am with your pet food. My seven year old rottweiler, named Gretta, was extremely overweight and lethargic. "I have 2 Chihuahuas – The first one I got as a puppy 9 years ago and the second one I got from a rescue a few years ago when she was already 7 years old. I started feeding Evolution to my first dog at least 6-7 years ago when I first found out about it. I’ve been a vegetarian for 10 years, so I wanted a healthy option for my dog, too! It disgusts me to know what ingredients are in other dog foods, and I can’t fathom feeding that to my dogs. My theory is if I wouldn’t consider eating it, why would I feed it to my dogs?
My first dog has always had a smooth shiny coat that gets many compliments from vets and others, she never smells bad or 'dog-like', and her breath is never bad. It actually smells good. I attribute all that to Evolution. Being 9 years old, she still acts like a puppy. She is full of energy and very healthy.
My second dog, when we first got her, was smelly and her coat was very rough. Since she switched to Evolution, all that has changed. She doesn’t smell bad, neither does her breath, and her coat has gotten much softer and healthier-looking. Now only if Evolution could stop her from shedding…

"We started using this food in April 2007 after a recommendation from a person who raises and breads AKC dogs that compete in prestigious dog shows. I had told her how my cat developed allergies to most foods and really wasn’t doing well with the Hill’s Low-Allergen z/d Prescription Diet food. Mind you, we always fed our cat premium cat foods.
So, after ordering a $19.95 intro pack from Evolution Diet, we were thrilled to see our cat immediately embrace the dry vegan food. Our vet had some concerns, telling us to make sure there is taurine in the food (which it does).
Flash forward to his most recent vet visit which was last summer. He had to be put under anesthesia for a tooth cleaning and while he was under, the vet gave him a complete physical. When he was picked up, the vet wanted us to confirm his age. 15 years old was the reply. She couldn’t understand where we got that estimate from, surely it must have been wrong. She estimate the age at about 6 or 7 years. Well, we adopted him at a Humane Society as a baby so we knew for sure he was 15 (now 16). All I can say is that the food must have had a huge influence on his “real age” vs. “physical age.” He has a shiny coat, he is healthy, he is active, and he still loves his food. The only concern he has is a recent cracking of his bones of his back sometimes when he is stretching. Luckily, he is not in pain and he still goes on his regular daily gallop/sprint, which sounds like a pack of elephants stamping around the house (this is one of his trademarks, he has always done this).
In terms of moisture concerns or urinary issues, we have not had any. We do not moisten his food. He doesn’t like it that way. But he eats a lot of fruits and vegetables. I didn’t even know that cats liked fruits/vegetables before 1995, but this one aggressively stands firm on his love for them. In fact, he has to have cantaloupe daily, it’s non-negotiable. It has been one of those things where he has demanded it for years. Secondly, he loves bananas, so he gets a couple of pieces per week. And, during the summer months, he gets asparagus spears, which happen to be his #2 favorite thing on earth, next to cantaloupe. He has also been known to steal broccoli off of our plates and run away and eat it too. He is really good at swiftly stealing food, even at 16.
I give this food a 5/5 review because in my experience, it has been like a fountain of youth for my cat, who I adore. I am so happy we were told about this food four years ago, and I will continue to feed it to my cat without reservations."

"An Indian person adopting a cat is about as unholy and sacrilegious as it gets in Indian circles. Being a vegetarian myself, the burden of religious and personal preference both drove me to quickly look for vegan cat options the moment I adopted the portly Sylvester. I bought the Evolution 20 pounder and started mixing 1:1 with the purina and managed to slowly wean him out of Purina. Now he loves this food and that is all I care about. Wish they would bundle some shipping costs for two bags since at nearly 25% of cost price for shipping, it does get pretty expensive. That said, even if they decided to double the price, I would still pony up and pay."
"The two little darlings at my home have been eating this particular cat food since we got them from the local shelter at the ripe young age of 6 months. We chose to switch them over to vegetarian cat food for two reasons: 1) both of us are ethical vegetarians, and 2) we could!
We switched them using the same methods vets have recommended when undergoing any change in diet for felines–slowly mixing them together in differing proportions until all that they eat is the new kind of food. In this way the cats do not undergo any kind of indigestion that might cause them to throw up (those with cats already will understand completely).
But what was the surest sign that we were doing the right thing for our cats? Even on the first day, and for everyday it was given to them after, they ignored the meat-based cat food, eating only the vegetable-based pieces from their bowl! Everyday when I went to feed them in the morning, they would be waiting next to a bowl with meat-food detritus, staring impatiently for the vegetable goodness.
As for their level of health, I have literally never known two cats to be sweeter or more active than these. And I don’t mean chaotic, but playful, pouncy, and sweet. Is it all because of the food? I can’t say to 100% certainty. But know this: when we got the kittens they were shy and scared, seemingly because both only have vision in their left eyes. Now they are more daring than even the most normal of cats.
All this and we don’t have to participate in the inhumane practice of feeding waste animals to our companion friends!"
"Both our cats absolutely love Evolution kibble. We mix it up with Red Star nutritional yeast and water and they love it even more. They’ve actually torn open the bag to get to it, and when they hear me getting it ready they come running. It’s vegan, so it contains no slaughterhouse by-products, euthanasia solution, carcinogens, or dead animals. Yay!"
"Every time I run out and get regular kibble or cans, my cats look scruffy and they seem to hate the store-bought stuff and hate me for feeding it to them. On this food for years, my cats are shiny, never gassy, never fat though I leave the food out all the time in a bistro feeder, and their poop ain’t sweet but seems less foul than when on other food. Only downside is that you have to remember to reorder it 2 weeks before you run out because it’s not in any stores. It’s not cheap but with 2 cats a 40 pound bag ($90 including shipping) lasts me about 12 weeks, so under $4 a week per cat, maybe $2 more than Purina, $1 more than Iams and about the same as Blue or Nutro."

"I’ve been feeding my dog Evolution for a couple years now. I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea at first, but my veganism made me do it! If there had been any adverse effects, I would’ve taken her off right away. I’m not going to subject my dog to my own moralism if it does her harm. The first thing I noticed was that she dove right into her new kibble, so it passed the taste test. Of course, I slowly transitioned her from her other food. As time passed, it seemed that 2 cups total of dry food per day were enough to maintain her weight. I suppose this implies Evolution is very concentrated? She averages between 60-63 lbs throughout the year. I feed her only once in the evening, adding enough water to the kibble to make it stewy. Instead of giving her treats, I merely give her a small handful of kibble out of the two cup total once or twice a day. My dog is now twelve going on thirteen and just passed her senior checkup (blood work, stool and urine check, etc) with flying colors. I don’t dare tell the vet what I’ve been up to. I don’t think she’d approve. I let the checkups speak for themselves."

"My poor bull terrier, Brian, has suffered with skin allergies all his life. My vet and I have tried many different possible solutions. My guess was always that it was food based, as many of the solutions involved changing his diet. I tried every type of hypo-allergenic food and protein type available, fish, duck, lamb, beef, bison, chicken etc. Tried the raw food diet for about a year. The last diet involved me buying and cooking him lamb and rice (last suggestion from my vet). Each time I changed his diet, the allergies would clear up for a bit and then come back full strength. I suspected perhaps he would get relief when the new meat type was introduced and then eventually develop an allergy to that meat type. This inspired me to seek out a vegetarian diet for him. I tried cooking for him myself at first but was concerned that he wasn’t getting all the nutrients he would need. So I searched the net and found the Gourmet Maximum Life Dog Kibble. "I order for my 4.5 year old, 80 lb female husky, Aura. She might even be part malamute. The brand I have ordered is called Evolution. I have ordered the Gourmet Fondue line and the Max Life line. I have placed 3 large orders with them to date (4 to 5 of the 40 lb bags) and they have delivered them right to my door. My dog loves the food and is very healthy according to our vet who has over 30+ years experience. All and all, I (and more importantly our furry friend) are very happy with this vegan dog food. My dog is a little over 2 years old and had never been so picky about her food until a few months ago. After determining that it wasn't a health issue, I tried a few different brands, but nothing seemed to want to entice her. She would go up to her bowl, get a sniff and walk away. She would eat at the end of the day which seemed out of desperation and she used to be so food driven! I realized she was bored of the same old kibble and decided to find something more exciting for her and hoping it would also be vegan, which I am. Thankfully, I found the gourmet maximum life kibble on Evolution Diet with reasonable shipping rates. My dog loves the taste and hasn't wanted to skip a meal yet! I bet it's because of the nutritional yeast in the recipe, either way, she's a big fan! I will exclusively buy this brand as it ethically makes sense to me and is very affordable given the prices for the large bags. My dogs are vegan, as are we, and other than doing lots of cooking, there are no places in Montreal that cater to vegan animals. My dog has many food and environmental allergies. With Evolution food, his allergies are less present and my dog loves it. Also, the service is very fast!
My dogs had been on a raw diet for a year when I decided to switch them to Evolution Diet. On the raw diet our senior labs would periodically have digestion and stomach issues including diarrhea and vomiting. In addition as a vegan, feeding raw presented a dilemma for me. I have been feeding all 3 dogs Evolution Diet for a couple of months now and have had no digestion or stomach issues. Everyone has a nice shiny coat and good energy. Evolution customer service is excellent and they are always there to help with questions.
Flounder was already vegan but I wanted to feed him non-GMO food. He loves the Maximum Life Evolution Diet kibble. We mix it with water to help him stay hydrated and save some money. I also make him a batch of the Garbanzo-based recipe using the Vegedog supplement once a week or so. I like being able to control the ingredients and make sure they're all organic. He's a fan of the Gourmet and Benevo Duo canned foods and he devours the cranberry treats!

"The 5 lb bag of Evolution Diet vegan cat food arrived today (very promptly, I might add) and as soon as I opened it up, my 3-year-old cat was very interested in what I was doing. Usually, for dry cat food, I give her Ami Cat vegan cat food but it's a little expensive to order it from the States, so I thought I'd give this stuff a try...not me personally, I mean, I thought I'd let my cat give it a try. And I gotta tell ya...she loves it! I just gave her a small scoop to begin with. She devoured it and meowed for more! When she was finished eating that, I was reading the information on the bag and she came up to the bag, rubbing it and purring and trying to get inside (what a funny little monkey). So far, at least, she seems to really enjoy it. Both she and I are very happy with the purchase."
"I have been using the Evolution vegan pet food for my cat Shadow for about a year and she loves it! Especially the cranberry treats I get every shipment. She also likes when I sprinkle on a little yeast. I also add hemp hearts to it as they are a good source of protein for her. She is 11 years old and I love her dearly! That is why I don't feed her that slaughterhouse sweepings off the floor. Shadow has never been sick in the time I have had her since she was a kitten, so I must be doing something right? "My poor bull terrier, Brian, has suffered with skin allergies all his life. My vet and I have tried many different possible solutions. My guess was always that it was food-based, as many of the solutions involved changing his diet. I tried every type of hypo-allergenic food and protein type available—fish, duck, lamb, beef, bison, chicken, etc. I tried the raw food diet for about a year. The last diet involved me buying and cooking him lamb and rice (last suggestion from my vet). Each time I changed his diet, the allergies would clear up for a bit and then come back full strength. I suspected perhaps he would get relief when the new meat type was introduced and then eventually develop an allergy to that meat type. This inspired me to seek out a vegetarian diet for him. I tried cooking for him myself at first but was concerned that he wasn’t getting all the nutrients he would need. So I searched the net and found the Gourmet Maximum Life Dog Kibble from Evolution Diet. They offer amazing customer service, and I am happy to report that more than six months in, Brian is better than he has ever been. He’s bulked up nicely and really seems to love the taste. "There's already a vegan dog (and cat) supplier in the USA—it stands for VEgan CAts and DOgs. I have been ordering from them since July 2015. I order for my 4.5-year-old, 80 lb female husky, Aura. She might even be part malamute. The brand I have ordered is called Evolution. I have ordered the Gourmet Fondu line and the Max Life line. I have placed three large orders with them to date (4 to 5 of the 40 lb bags), and they have delivered them right to my door in Kingston, Ontario, for free! My dog loves the food and is very healthy according to our vet, who has over 30+ years of experience. They also carry the AMI line of pet food. All in all, I (and more importantly, our furry friend) are very happy with this vegan dog food. One of the owners, Mikhail, is very helpful and will answer any questions you may have. Note: I have no financial connections whatsoever with this company. I simply feel that if we can feed our pets vegan food, we should. If our furry friend lives another 10 or so years (huskies live on average between 12–15 years), she will go through about 3,000 lbs of dog kibble. Imagine how many chickens/cows, etc., would have to die in order to feed her if she were not eating vegan food! She is thriving on vegan food, so I would strongly urge everyone to move in this direction."

"Max and I paddleboarding outside of Algonquin Park in September. When I adopted him a year ago and tried him on the board he didn't like it (as he had never been on one) but this year he literally jumped onto it and spent hours on the lake.
